Many children’s books aim to have a basic theme, whether that be educational, behavioral, interactive, conceptual, etc. My book “Whose Milk?” is educational as well as behavioral in that it teaches the importance of sharing.
The illustrations of the cats are drawn simply so that they are easily identifiable. This helps emphasize the expressions and gestures which allow them to begin to understand some of the basic emotions that these cats are exhibiting.
The typeface used is called KG Neatly Printed, which was chosen because the basic characters resemble the kinds of letters that kids are just learning to write.
The goal of my color choice aims to keep colors simple and contrasting, not adding too much to the page and making each page easy to view and identify what is going on. A little bit of shading is used to add some dimension to the characters, making them come to life and be more realistic to the kids.
